The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Balod, Chhattisgarh has issued recruitment notification No. 465 dated 02.07.2025 for the post of Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel on a contract basis. Eligibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification: Law degree (LLB) and enrollment with Bar Council.
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of criminal law practice, including at least 20 sessions court cases. (Relaxation in special cases)
  • Skills Required:
    • Strong knowledge of criminal law
    • Excellent written and verbal communication
    • Legal research skills
    • High ethical awareness of defense responsibilities
    • Team collaboration and IT proficiency
  • Other Conditions:
    • Must be an Indian citizen
    • No criminal convictions
    • NOC required if employed in government service
    • Disqualified if removed from prior government or High Court service

Job Responsibilities

  • Represent legal aid cases in Sessions Courts – trials, appeals, bail, remands
  • Conduct jail visits and client interviews
  • Maintain complete case files
  • Guide legal researchers, interns, and junior legal aid lawyers
  • Perform any duties assigned by DLSA Balod

Selection Process

  • Shortlisting based on merit (graduation marks). Up to 10 times the number of vacancies may be called for interview.
  • Final selection based on interview performance and eligibility.
  • Tie-breaking: Priority to older candidates by date of birth, then alphabetical order.
  • Waitlist valid for 1 year in case of vacancy or non-joining.

  • Unsatisfactory performance review after 6 months

Code of Ethics

  • No work in cases with personal/financial conflict
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information
  • Do not misuse office resources
  • Not allowed to take private legal cases
  • Must adhere to Bar Council of India rules

Leave Entitlement

  • 15 days of pro-rata leave per year
  • No salary for extra leave
  • No carry-forward or encashment of unused leave

Important Instructions
